Thursday May 7th At 12:15 we are going to be meeting in the chapel for the National day of Payer.  Come and spend time praying for our country, our neighborhood and our church.

First National Call to Fasting & Prayer- called for by Continental Congress

1863

President Lincoln declares a National Day of Prayer and Fasting

1892

Schools recite the first Pledge of Allegiance – October 12, 1892

1952

President Truman declares a National Day of Prayer and signs into law an annual observance thereof

1954

Words “Under God” added to The Pledge of Allegiance

1955

President Eisenhower signs law adding “Under God” to paper money, national buildings, government offices and monuments

1977

US Supreme Court upholds National Motto “In God We Trust”

1981

Culminating nearly 10 years of planning, the National Prayer Committee was established

1983

The National Day of Prayer Task Force was established May 1983. The first National Day of Prayer Observance was held in Constitution Hall

1987

Vonette Bright & NPC begin lobbying President Reagan and Congress to set aside designated day for national prayer

1988

President Reagan signs into law the designation of the First Thursday in May as the annual observance for the National Day of Prayer
