Matthew Met Jesus!

Contributed by Larry and Dawn Nelson, Missionaries to Australia

Early every Friday morning I meet with several men for a Bible study, prayer, and fellowship. I have been doing this for several years which have resulted in building some strong links with our men and helping them to live for the Lord.  That’s where I met Matthew last month. He is a young family man and the general manager of a successful construction company. Matthew was searching for some spiritual answers and was hoping to find some by attending that morning. He did.

That morning I spoke about Jesus’ encounter with Nicodemus (John 3) and I asked if any of the men would like to give their testimony of receiving Christ as Saviour.  Several of them gave powerful testimonies of their salvation and new walk with the Lord.  It was exciting to see their boldness.  Matthew quietly said that he had been given much to think about and thanked us.

Well, it was clear to me that God was working in this man’s heart so I asked him if he would like to also place his trust in Christ as his Savior.  Through tear-filled eyes he replied, “Yes, that’s what I need to do!”   He bowed his head and prayed out loud a sinner’s prayer, confessing Jesus Christ and receiving him as Saviour!  The other men also bowed their heads and when Matthew finished we all knew that we had just witnessed a spiritual birth. Praise the Lord!

Matthew has been attending our church services and has also begun to attend a four-week class I’m leading for new and growing Christians. He is thrilled about being saved and wants to be baptized soon. I’m thankful that God saved Matthew and has given him a new life. There are many just like Matthew that we need to reach with the gospel.
